KRAFTON has announced that PUBG, the battle royale franchise it helped define, is in development as a live-action series at Netflix. The company confirmed the project on October 30, 2026, in a press release issued from Amsterdam, and the adaptation carries an unusually direct authorial lead: Donald Glover will write, direct, executive produce, and star in the series.

Glover — an Emmy and Golden Globe winner known for Atlanta and Community — is being positioned not merely as a star but as the show's creative engine. His brother Stephen Glover will join as writer and executive producer, a pairing that mirrors the family-creative structure behind several of Glover's earlier projects.

The Development Team

KRAFTON's release lists the production team behind the series:

  • Donald Glover — director, writer, executive producer, and star
  • Stephen Glover — writer and executive producer
  • Michael Schaefer (NEON TV) — executive producer
  • Fam Udeorji (Gilga) — executive producer
  • Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee (LV3H) — executive producers

LV3H, KRAFTON's own entertainment division, is involved in the development and production of the series. That internal involvement is the clearest sign that the studio is treating the adaptation as a first-party franchise expansion rather than a one-off licensing deal.

Why PUBG

KRAFTON describes PUBG as "a global cultural icon" and "one of the most enduring game franchises," noting that the game has earned seven Guinness World Records and was the title that popularized the battle royale genre worldwide. The franchise's longevity and global recognition make it one of the most bankable game properties available for a screen adaptation — and Netflix has shown, with several earlier game-based productions, that it is willing to commit to the format.

Context

Game-to-screen adaptations have become a standing part of the industry's expansion strategy, and a few have become genuinely successful television. A series in which the game's own developer retains hands-on creative control through its internal studio is less common than a straight license-out, and the Glover front-and-center structure suggests KRAFTON is aiming for a prestige-drama treatment of the material rather than a fan-service adaptation.

No release date, episode count, or additional cast has been announced. The project is currently in development.
