Airbnb reported its third-quarter 2026 results on November 5, describing the quarter as its fastest revenue growth in more than three years. The company used its shareholder letter to make the case that it is rebuilding itself around AI, and it outlined a new kind of AI travel agent it plans to begin rolling out in the first half of 2027. The Numbers
In Q3 2026, revenue rose 19% year over year to $4.9 billion. Gross Booking Value (GBV) grew 21% to $27.7 billion, and Nights and Seats Booked rose 16% to 155.0 million. Airbnb Q3 2026 Shareholder Letter
Profitability held up: net income was $1.9 billion, and Adjusted EBITDA grew 22% to $2.5 billion, expanding the Adjusted EBITDA margin to 52% for the quarter. Average Daily Rate (ADR) was $179, up 4% year over year.
Airbnb also announced authorization to repurchase up to an additional $12 billion of its Class A common stock. First-time booker growth accelerated to 13% year over year — the highest since early 2022 — with Gen Z growing the fastest. The company said it shipped more than 50 products and features in the quarter, nearly 70% more than a year earlier.
The AI Travel Agent
The most forward-looking part of the letter is the AI agent. Airbnb describes it as deliberately different from a chatbot: rather than a chat window, the agent "draws on a library of hundreds of travel-specific interface elements — maps, photos, comparisons, calendars, itineraries — and composes them in real time" to match what a guest is looking for. The stated goal is to help guests plan an entire trip in one place, across homes, hotels, services, and experiences. Airbnb says it will begin rolling the agent out to guests in the first half of 2027.
AI is already embedded across the product. Guests can search by describing what they want in their own words or by voice, and compare homes from their wishlists side by side with AI-generated summaries. Hosts get tools such as 3D floor plans, dynamic pricing recommendations, and AI-generated earnings summaries. The letter attributes a decline of more than 17% in customer support cost per booking in the quarter to improvements in its AI assistant.
Raised Outlook
On the guidance front, Airbnb is raising its full-year 2026 outlook for both revenue growth and Adjusted EBITDA margin. It now expects full-year revenue growth in the "high teens" and an Adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 36%, even while noting that it is monitoring developments in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The letter also announced that every stay now supports Airbnb.org, the nonprofit that provides temporary housing in times of crisis, with Airbnb donating a portion of revenue from each stay toward a goal of $500 million over five years.
